The Big Ten bloggers are playing fantasy travel agent as we talk about our ultimate Big Ten road trip for 2012. We're each picking one game per week during the 2012 season that we could attend if it were entirely up to us (which it isn't, but that would be, like, pretty cool).
We're into the second week of conference play now, so let's see what we have to choose from for Week 6, which falls on the weekend of Oct. 6:
Week 6 games:
Illinois at Wisconsin
Michigan State at Indiana
Northwestern at Penn State
Nebraska at Ohio State
Michigan at Purdue
(Open: Iowa, Minnesota)
Brian's pick: Nebraska at Ohio State
I realize this will be my third time seeing the Buckeyes already, but it will be my first time laying eyes upon Nebraska on this road trip. And how could you not want to witness the rematch of what was a wild game last year in Lincoln, as the Huskers ultimately completed a huge comeback to score the victory? Think Ohio State will have a little revenge on its mind?
Two of the league's most exciting young quarterbacks will be on display in Braxton Miller and Taylor Martinez, as well as some star power with Rex Burkhead and the Buckeyes' defense. It will be Nebraska's first trip to The Horseshoe as a conference member, and even if the Sea of Red invade Columbus, they'll be harder to spot in the scarlet-and-gray set. If the Huskers can take care of business, they'll have a chance to come into this one at 5-0. This has all the makings of a potential classic, and I don't want to miss it.
Adam's pick: Nebraska at Ohio State
OK, OK, I know I said I'd start to diversify, but this game stands out from the pack in Week 6. Plus, I'll get to join my pal BB in C-Bus. High Street will never be the same. Unlike Brian, I've yet to see the Buckeyes on my trip, and while I'll have a good handle on Bo Pelini's Huskers at this point, I want to check out what Urban Meyer is doing with his new team. By Week 6, Ohio State's players should have a good handle on the offense Meyer and coordinator Tom Herman plan to install. Miller flummoxed Nebraska for the first two and a half quarters of last year's game before leaving with an injury, and he should be an even bigger threat for the Huskers this time around.
This marks the first of several Big Ten road tests for Nebraska, which flunked two of them in 2011 (Wisconsin and Michigan). Bo Pelini returns to his alma mater with a team that showed last year it can score points against the Buckeyes. Martinez and Burkhead should come in with confidence, and the Huskers players might feel at home with so much red in the stands (or not). But this one is too good to pass up. See you along the banks of the Olentangy.
