Carlos Brown has bailed out Michigan's running game several times this season, filling in extremely well for the banged-up Brandon Minor.
Minor and the Wolverines will need to return the favor Saturday night against No. 12 Iowa (ABC, 8 p.m. ET). Brown didn't make the trip to Iowa City because of a concussion, Wolverines head coach Rich Rodriguez said on a video posted Friday night on the team's official Web site. The senior apparently sustained the injury during practice this week, though he didn't appear on Michigan's official injury report.
Brown leads Michigan with 336 rush yards and three touchdowns on 44 carries (7.6 yards per carry), while Minor has rushed for 179 yards and two touchdowns on 35 carries (5.1 ypc). Minor is expected to get the start against Iowa, while sophomore Michael Shaw likely will serve as the primary backup.
Fortunately for Michigan, Minor appears to be as healthy as he's been all season after battling a high-ankle sprain. Minor was the team's top rusher last year and entered the fall as the projected starter. Still, Brown would have been a valuable asset against an Iowa defense that hasn't allowed a rushing touchdown for the last 33 quarters.
