Michigan stays with Threet as starting QB

Posted by ESPN.com's Adam Rittenberg

Steven Threet wasn't the problem for Michigan against Notre Dame, and the redshirt freshman will retain the starting quarterback job for next week's Big Ten opener against No. 8 Wisconsin. Coach Rich Rodriguez announced Monday morning that Threet will remain the starter after completing 16 of 23 passes for 175 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 35-17 loss.

Sophomore Nick Sheridan also remains in the mix despite throwing two interceptions against Notre Dame.

"He's going to be the starter," Rodriguez said of Threet. "He played well enough in that game for us to have confidence in him. Nick is still in the picture, too. Nick is still in our thoughts a little bit."

Both Threet and the Wolverines offense have much to improve upon, but Threet's ability to avoid an interception in the first three games makes him the obvious choice to remain the starter.
