Good news for Michigan quarterback Tate Forcier, who is expected to practice Wednesday and appears to be on pace to play Saturday against Delaware State (Big Ten Network, noon ET).

Forcier has been dealing with a mild concussion and a right (throwing) shoulder injury. Wolverines head coach Rich Rodriguez didn't know Wednesday whether Forcier had been medically cleared, as doctors were still conducting tests, but the coach said the progress reports are favorable.

"Talking to the trainers this morning and today, he felt a lot better," Rodriguez said before Wednesday’s practice. "We'll see how he does today. I think [Monday] he felt a lot better. I don't think there's any issues or many issues at all with his shoulder, it's just with those concussions, no matter how severe it is, you want to be 100 percent sure it's cleared up."

There's obviously a risk that comes with returning to the field so soon after a concussion, and Michigan doesn't need Forcier to beat Delaware State. But if he's medically cleared, the game provides a good opportunity for him to regain some momentum on offense after consecutive losses. Forcier didn't practice Monday and did only some light running Tuesday.

Forcier has completed 25 of 51 passes with two touchdowns and two interceptions in the last two contests. Rodriguez said Wednesday that Forcier's status rests with the team's medical staff, but if he's healthy, he'll get the start. Expect freshman Denard Robinson to get a good chunk of playing time either way.

Running back Carlos Brown, who missed last week's game at Iowa with a concussion, also was expected to practice Wednesday, though Brandon Minor likely will get the start.
