Make it a good day.
Make it a good day.
- Let's kick it off with Sports Illustrated's great cover story on Penn State head coach Joe Paterno, written by Joe Posnanski. A must read.
- For Terrelle Pryor and Ohio State to succeed together, both sides must make changes, SI.com's Stewart Mandel writes. The Buckeyes have no such worries about standout safety Kurt Coleman, Tim May writes in The Columbus Dispatch.
- Parity rules in the Big Ten right now, even if the rest of the country doesn't see it that way, SI.com's Cory McCartney writes. "If Purdue beats Ohio State, it's laughable. If, however, one-loss LSU fell to 2-5 Vanderbilt, it's reasonable to assume most would chalk it up to SEC depth."
- Cross Lloyd Carr's name off the list of candidates for Michigan's athletic director position, annarbor.com's Dave Birkett reports. A good synopsis of AD Bill Martin's tenure at Michigan from The Detroit Free Press' Mark Snyder. Martin's ultimate legacy will be determined by the success or failure of Rich Rodriguez and the football program, Bob Wojnowski writes in The Detroit News. Wojnowski also thinks the in-state schools pull off upsets this weekend.
- The Michigan State-Iowa series is filled with fantastic finishes, and the rivalry seems to be heating up again, Joe Rexrode writes in the Lansing State Journal. Spartans quarterbacks Kirk Cousins and Keith Nichol both are a bit banged up, Shannon Shelton writes in the Detroit Free Press.
- It's judgment weekend in the Big Ten, and here are the numbers you need to know, the Big Ten Network's Dave Revsine writes in his blog.
- Iowa is trying to follow in the footsteps of the famed 1985 team, Pat Harty writes in the Iowa City Press-Citizen. The (Cedar Rapids) Gazette's Mike Hlas breaks down what Iowa must do to reach the BCS title game.
- Most defensive players get a breather from time to time, but not Indiana middle linebacker Matt Mayberry, Terry Hutchens writes in The Indianapolis Star.
- Missed this one from Wednesday, but the Chicago Sun-Times' Herb Gould has a good piece about Illinois' meltdown since the Rose Bowl.
- Despite being a coach's son, Northwestern wideout Zeke Markshausen never was pushed toward football -- in fact, just the opposite, Teddy Greenstein writes in the Chicago Tribune.
- Duane Bennett could get another chance to become Minnesota's featured running back, Marcus Fuller writes in the (St. Paul) Pioneer Press.
If Purdue beats Ohio State, it's laughable. If, however, one-loss LSU fell to 2-5 Vanderbilt, it's reasonable to assume most would chalk it up to SEC depth.
