Penn State starting defensive linemen Maurice Evans and Abe Koroma returned to practice Monday after being charged last week with misdemeanor marijuana possession, but there's no word yet on whether the players will be available Saturday night against No. 22 Illinois (ABC, 8 p.m. ET).
Nittany Lions coach Joe Paterno said on the Big Ten coaches' teleconference that he's waiting for the university to rule on any possible discipline for Evans and Koroma before determining their playing status. Before Monday, Evans and Koroma hadn't practiced the team since police searched their apartment Sept. 2.
Illinois coach Ron Zook expects to see Evans, a first-team All-Big Ten selection last season, as well as Koroma when the teams meet at Beaver Stadium.
"I don't think there's any question they're going to be in there," Zook said. "I don't know you can really [prepare] for them. They're great players, they're both starters, played an awful lot of football. It just adds to their arsenal. It gives them that much more depth."
Penn State has seen its defensive line depth sharply diminish since the summer and would get a huge boost if Evans and Koroma return against the Illini.
