Tracking our B1G fantasy teams: Week 3

A reader in our Saturday gameday chat had the temerity to question my fantasy team roster management.

Don't you remember my near perfect season last year, when I humiliated Rittenberg on a near-weekly basis? Have some faith, people.

Sure, I had a bad first week and lost. But that was part of my plan. And that plan came to fruition in Week 2, when I roared back and crushed The Trombone Shorties 151-95. The name of the game in college football fantasy is having quarterbacks put up huge numbers through the air and on the ground. I just happen to have two offensive machines at quarterback in Denard Robinson and Braxton Miller.

Those two guys alone combined for 91 fantasy points last week for Non-Gingervitis as the Michigan and Ohio State stars went berserk. I didn't need a lot of other help but got it from smart waiver wire pickup Bennie Fowler (15 points for the emerging Michigan State receiver) and the Michigan State defense (16). I was able to withstand a surprising donut from Michigan running back Fitz Toussaint, but I expect better things from him in the future.

Rittenberg's team simply couldn't keep pace, not even with nice weeks from Taylor Martinez (24) and Le'Veon Bell (19) and the Ohio State defense (15). So it's back to the drawing board for the Shorties, who at least get their familiar first pick of free agents this week.

On to our Week 3 pickups:

Adam adds Minnesota QB MarQueis Gray and drops Iowa QB James Vandenberg

Rationale: Vandy can kill a bear with a bow and arrow, but he's not hitting enough of Iowa's receivers with the football right now. Who knows? Maybe he'll be back. But I like the way Gray looked running the ball last week, and dual-threat quarterbacks are the way to go in this game.

Brian adds Nebraska WR Kenny Bell and drops Iowa WR Keenan Davis

Rationale: Davis and the rest of the Iowa passing game have done next to nothing so far this year. So I'm switching gears and picking up Mr. Afro Thunder. Bell had a nice game at UCLA and should be able to find the end zone against Arkansas State.

Adam adds Purdue WR Antavian Edison and drops Wisconsin WR Jared Abbrederis

Rationale: This move might come back to haunt me, but I don't expect Abby to do much, if anything, on Saturday after that nasty shot he took last week. I never should have dropped Edison in the first place. I just hope he forgives me with two more touchdowns against EMU.

Brian adds Nebraska RB Ameer Abdullah and drops Iowa RB Damon Bullock

Rationale: Bullock couldn't repeat his Week 1 performance against Iowa State, and while he might have an easier time against Northern Iowa this week, the entire Hawkeyes offense is fantasy kryptonite right now. So I'll take my chances with Abdullah, who had 119 yards and two scores last week while replacing the injured Rex Burkhead.

Adam drops Ohio State WR Corey Brown for Penn State WR Allen Robinson

Rationale: Penn State's pass game is the offense's strength right now, and Robinson is undoubtedly Matt McGloin's top target, especially after Shawney Kersey's departure this week. He has 19 catches through the first two games, and he'll turn in another big performance against Navy.
