My Big Ten fantasy team, Non-Gingervitis, rolled to its third straight victory last week over Adam's Trombone Shorties. That makes me 3-1 on the season.
It was a lower-scoring week for both of us, but Ohio State's Braxton Miller (25) and smart waiver wire pickup Jared Abbrederis (20) led a balanced effort as I won 117-97. The Shorties got a tall pile of points from Michigan State's Le'Veon Bell (31), but no other player had more than 15. Rittenberg's crummy work on the waiver wire again burned him, as pickups Kain Colter and Devin Smith totaled just seven points between them. Adam wanted negative points for Denard Robinson's five interceptions, but alas, I don't make the rules here.
I'm not getting too cocky just yet, though. My winning streak is in serious jeopardy this week. Michigan has a bye, which means Robinson and Fitz Toussaint can't help me, and I'm willing to bite the bullet this week instead of risking the loss of Robinson on the waiver wire next week. Plus, my fantasy MVP Miller gets a stiff challenge going against the Michigan State defense (which I also have, so fantasy rooting interests are split).
I can only hope Adam stumbles over the waiver wire again this week. Of course, he gets first pick after yet another loss:
Adam adds Purdue WR Antavian Edison and drops Ohio State WR Devin Smith
Rationale: I've been getting one half of the receiver equation correct, and I hope Edison completes it. Glad to pick him up after an open week, as he averages six catches a game and has scored four times in the first three contests. He should torch a woeful Marshall defense Saturday.
Brian adds Nebraska RB Rex Burkhead and drops Michigan RB Fitz Toussaint
Rationale: King Rex looked pretty healthy last week against Idaho State, so I'm ready to welcome him back to my team with open arms. Toussaint has the bye and hasn't exactly been lighting the fantasy world on fire, either.
Adam adds Penn State QB Matt McGloin and drops Northwestern QB Kain Colter
Rationale: Can't say I saw this coming before the season, but McGloin has been steadily productive in a pass-driven Penn State offense. I expect him to put him decent numbers against a reeling Illinois team.
Rationale: I love what Abdullah did for me the past few weeks (averaging over 23 fantasy points per week), but now I've got Burkhead back. So I'm going to hope Weisman can be a fantasy Heisman after his 200-yard, three-touchdown performance last week. Perhaps he can have a Marcus Coker-style day against Minnesota.
