Miami's Eichorst to replace Osborne

Nebraska has found its successor to athletic director Tom Osborne in Miami's Shawn Eichorst, ESPN's Brett McMurphy is reporting.
According to McMurphy, Eichorst has resigned as Miami's athletic director and will replace Osborne, who announced last week that he would retire on Jan. 1. You can read Eichorst's bio here.
Eichorst has no direct ties to Nebraska but does know the Big Ten. Before taking the Miami job in April 2011, he spent six seasons at Wisconsin, the final three serving as deputy athletic director under Barry Alvarez. Alvarez, of course, played at Nebraska and is close to Osborne.
Eichorst also was a senior associate athletic director at South Carolina. He graduated from Wisconsin-Whitewater and earned a law degree from Marquette. His Miami tenure was short, but with potentially serious NCAA sanctions looming over the Hurricanes' football program, he might have seen this as a great opportunity to leave before the ax falls.
Nebraska has a unique culture, and Eichorst will have to grasp it. But Osborne has said he will stay on and help the transition through at least next summer, and there can be few better mentors for the job than the Huskers' legend. Eichorst's experience at Wisconsin, which has a culture similar in many ways to Nebraska's, should also help.
