The awards watch continues Monday as the Thorpe Award -- given to the nation's top defensive back -- revealed its list of 15 semifinalists.
Only one Big Ten player appears: Ohio State sophomore cornerback Bradley Roby. He has been outstanding this season, recording 42 tackles, two interceptions, one blocked kick, one fumble recovered and a whopping 16 pass breakups, which leads the nation. Roby leads the nation in total passes defended with 18. He has scored three touchdowns -- one on an interception return, one on a fumble recovery and one on a recovery of a blocked punt by fellow cornerback Travis Howard.
The sophomore is constantly around the ball and has stood out on special teams. He aims to become the first Ohio State player to win the Thorpe Award since Malcolm Jenkins in 2008.
There aren't any obvious Big Ten snubs on the Thorpe semifinalist list, although players like Ohio State's Howard, Minnesota cornerback Michael Carter and Northwestern safety Ibraheim Campbell have stood out at times.
Three Thorpe Award finalists will be revealed Nov. 19, and the winner will be announced Dec. 6 at the Home Depot College Football Awards.
