Iowa senior Tony Moeaki has been named one of eight semifinalists for the John Mackey Award, given to the nation's top tight end.
After missing three games with an ankle injury, Moeaki turned in two dynamic performances in wins against Michigan and Wisconsin. He had six receptions for 105 yards and two touchdowns against the Wolverines and followed it up with three receptions for 55 yards and a score against the Badgers.
Moeaki has been quiet in Iowa's last four games but remains in the running. The other semifinalists are Oregon's Ed Dickson, Pitt's Dorin Dickerson, Florida's Aaron Hernandez, USC's Anthony McCoy, BYU's Dennis Pitta, Notre Dame's Kyle Rudolph and Marshall's Cody Slate.
The award will be presented Dec. 10 during the Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards Show.
I'm surprised that Wisconsin's Garrett Graham didn't make the list. Graham leads Wisconsin with five touchdown catches and ranks second on the team with 35 receptions.
