Badgers reschedule Wazzu series

In what could be another sign that a game against LSU next year will come to fruition, Wisconsin has rescheduled its planned series with Washington State.

The Badgers had been scheduled to play the Cougars on the road next season and in Madison in September 2015. Now, Wisconsin will host Washington State in 2022 and play in Pullman in 2023. Uh, get your tickets now for those games that are a decade away.

Moving those games will allow the Badgers to add LSU to next year's nonconference schedule, which also includes USF, Bowling Green and Western Illinois. Wisconsin and LSU are close to finalizing a deal that will see them play the 2014 opener at Houston's Reliant Stadium, with the Tigers returning for a game at Green Bay's Lambeau Field. It also frees up Wisconsin's schedule in 2015, when the Badgers are already contracted to open the year against Alabama at Cowboys Stadium.

Meanwhile, Washington State will still get to play a Big Ten team in 2014 and '15. Rutgers announced today that it will open next season against the Cougars in Seattle, with Wazzu returning the game in Piscataway in 2015. That helps upgrade the Scarlet Knights' schedule, which had only included Navy, Howard and Tulane next season before this announcement, and it means their game against Washington State will be their first as an official member of the Big Ten.
