The Big Ten got what it wanted Saturday, as Texas squeaked past Nebraska to keep the Big 12 from receiving multiple BCS berths. Both the Big East and ACC also will be one-berth leagues after victories by Cincinnati and Georgia Tech. So for the fifth consecutive season, the Big Ten will be sending two teams to the big bowls.
The biggest surprise in all this was the buzz from Jerry World that the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl likely will pair non-BCS unbeatens TCU and Boise State rather than select Iowa or Penn State with its replacement pick. There's enough evidence out there to convince me the Big Ten at-large representative will be heading to Miami rather than to Glendale. So who goes to the FedEx Orange Bowl, Iowa or Penn State? It's a tough call, but I'm sticking with the Hawkeyes.
The other change to my predictions relates to Michigan State, which will be without at least 10 players and possibly more for its bowl game. I believe the suspensions and dismissals will affect where the Spartans end up, but again, these things could go either way.
Wisconsin likely locked up an Outback Bowl berth with its dominant win against Hawaii on Saturday night.
Here's how I see things shaking out:
Rose Bowl Game presented by Citi: Ohio State* vs. Oregon*
FedEx Orange: Iowa vs. Georgia Tech*
Capital One: Penn State vs. SEC team
Outback: Wisconsin vs. SEC team
Champs Sports: Northwestern vs. ACC team
Valero Alamo: Minnesota vs. Big 12 team
Insight: Michigan State vs. Big 12 team
