Spartans' Jones a consensus All-American

Michigan State junior linebacker Greg Jones has been named the Big Ten's only consensus All-American this season.

Consensus All-Americans are recognized for receiving the highest number of points at specific positions. The consensus list encompasses All-America teams from five different organizations: American Football Coaches Association (First Team), Associated Press (First, Second and Third Teams), Football Writers Association of America (First Team), The Sporting News (First, Second and Third Teams) and Walter Camp Foundation (First and Second Teams).

A points system is used for selections of the consensus All-America team (three points for first team, two points for second team and one point for third team).

Jones earned Big Ten co-defensive player of the year honors after receiving the league's preseason Defensive Player of the Year award in August. He led the Big Ten and ranked third nationally in tackles with 141.
