Big Ten in the latest polls

October, 20, 2013
The most important rankings come out tonight with the release of the first BCS standings. But here's a look at where the Big Ten shapes up in both major polls after an upset-filled weekend across college football:

Associated Press

4. Ohio State
22. Wisconsin
24. Michigan
25. Nebraska

Others receiving votes: Michigan State (29th)

USA Today coaches' poll

The Buckeyes remain at No. 4 and actually dropped a spot in the more important coaches' poll, as Florida State leapfrogged Ohio State as expected. Urban Meyer's team will likely be No. 4 in the first BCS standings as well. ... Wisconsin is playing very well but still not getting much respect, especially from the coaches. The Badgers would be in much different shape if not for the desert debacle at Arizona State. ... Michigan breaks back into the rankings, as apparently voters are impressed by beating Indiana at home and giving up 47 points in the process. More likely, though, it was the chaos elsewhere, particularly in the SEC East, that helped the Big Ten in the polls, including Nebraska. ... That chaos wasn't enough, though, for Michigan State, which remains just on the brink. Perhaps a better performance against Purdue would have gotten the Spartans in, because there sure isn't much difference in the résumés between MSU and Nebraska.
