No. 19

Pat Angerer, LB, Iowa, Sr., 6-1, 235

Preseason ranking: 20

Why he's here: For the last two seasons, Angerer was the heart and soul of a stout Iowa defense. He followed a terrific 2008 season with a complete 2009 campaign, earning consensus first-team All-Big Ten honors. Angerer finished second in the Big Ten and fourth nationally in tackles average (11.2 tpg, 145 total tackles) and helped Iowa rank eighth nationally in points allowed and 10th in yards allowed. Although his interceptions total dropped, Angerer continued his playmaking ways with two forced fumbles and six passes defended. He was one of five finalists for the Bronko Nagurski Award.

Angerer was at his best down the stretch, racking up 10 or more tackles in each of Iowa's final five games, including 16 against Minnesota. The second-team All-American led the Big Ten in tackles during conference play (12.8 tpg). He projects as a mid-round pick in April's NFL draft but should be a good pickup with his leadership and sure tackling. Angerer's personality is one of a kind, and he will be missed in Iowa City.
