Ohio State names six (!!!) season captains
By ESPN.com staff
They might want to look into expanding the postgame interview podium at Ohio Stadium.
Head coach Jim Tressel will have some company this season when he addresses the media after home games.
Ohio State on Wednesday named six captains for the 2010 season, marking just the second time in team history that six men will hold the honor (1982 was the other year). All six of the selections are seniors, and as a result, none is named Terrelle Pryor.
The captains are ...
- Guard Bryant Browning
- Defensive lineman Cameron Heyward
- Linebacker Ross Homan
- Linebacker Brian Rolle
- Running back Brandon Saine
- Wide receiver Dane Sanzenbacher
No surprises here, and I like how Ohio State mixes some very vocal guys like Rolle and Heyward with lead-by-example types like Homan and Saine. Why no Pryor? He isn't a senior, plain and simple. While Ohio State has selected juniors before, there was very little chance this year with a large and decorated senior class returning to the squad.
It marks the first time Ohio State has had more than four captains since 1990. The team has had five captains in 1990, 1989 and 1974.
