Every Monday for the rest of the regular season, I'll provide a quick update on future Big Ten member Nebraska. For all your Huskers news, check out colleague David Ubben in the Big 12 blog, but this is a way for Big Ten fans to check in on the Big Red.

Record: 2-0

National rank: No. 8 in both AP and Coaches' polls

Last result: Beat Idaho 38-17 at home.

News to know: Coach Bo Pelini was pleased with his defense for forcing five turnovers and returning two for touchdowns. He had a different message for the offense after the Huskers committed four turnovers and drew way too many penalties (10 for 123 yards). Star defensive lineman Jared Crick had a big day with four tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. Redshirt freshman quarterback Taylor Martinez is a work in progress, though he shows impressive flashes, like a 67-yard touchdown dash against Idaho. Running back Roy Helu Jr. had a solid performance overall, including a 58-yard touchdown run. But the overall feeling is a lot of things must get cleaned up before this week's game at Washington.

Up next: Saturday at Washington (ABC regional, 3:30 p.m. ET)
