Purdue jumps ahead behind Dierking, Henry
By ESPN.com staff
Dan Dierking always seemed to be the forgotten running back at Purdue.
Not any more.
A week after scoring the game-winning touchdown on fourth down at Northwestern, Dierking is off to a strong start today against Minnesota. The senior had a 42-yard scamper on Purdue's four-play, 63-yard touchdown drive, which culminated with a Rob Henry touchdown run.
Henry, by the way, already has completed half as many passes (3) as he did all last week (6-for-18 against Northwestern).
Purdue got the start it needed against a Gophers team that can't have much confidence, given its five-game losing streak and Tim Brewster's shaky employment situation.
The Boilers lead 7-0 at the end of the first quarter.
