Minnesota adds to its 2011 recruiting class
By ESPN.com staff
Minnesota on Monday announced the signing of Cedric Thompson to its 2011 recruiting class.
Thompson played both running back and cornerback for Calipatria (Calif.) High School. Although Minnesota didn't sign a running back this year, Thompson is projected to play cornerback for the Gophers, according to a news release.
"Cedric is a young man we're very excited about,” head coach Jerry Kill said in a prepared statement. "He’s a 5-10, 200-pound cornerback with outstanding speed. He’s a great character kid, which is important to us. He really fits what we do. We think Cedric is a real diamond in the rough. He was a little under the radar through signing day, but we think it worked out well for us to get him."
Thompson rushed for 3,253 yards and 41 touchdowns and also recorded six interceptions in his final two seasons of high school.
The Gophers' 2011 class now includes 23 players.
