Indiana coaching staff attends 'Raw'

By Adam Rittenberg

I used to be a wrestle maniac. From ages 10-12, the WWF was right up there with baseball and football in my sporting hierarchy. I remember attending an event at the Cow Palace in San Francisco with a buddy and a sign taunting the Beverly Brothers, who tore it up when they saw it at ringside. Then they got crushed by Legion of Doom. Suckers.

The same night, Sid Justice beat the Undertaker in a casket match, and I got an autograph from the Ultimate Warrior. It was awesome.

Although I no longer follow wrestling, the day Randy "Macho Man" Savage died, a friend and I reminisced for an hour about our shared obsession.

Why the long, tangential intro?

Well, the Big Ten had a presence Monday night at the WWE event in Indianapolis. Indiana coach Kevin Wilson took his staff and their kids to "Monday Night Raw" at Conseco Fieldhouse.

According to some emailers, the Hoosiers staff appeared on screen at the beginning of the show.

Wilson tweeted Sunday that he was spending the day with WWE announcer Jim Ross, a good friend and a neighbor of his while he lived in Oklahoma. Ross, an Oklahoma fan, tweeted that he'll be attending Indiana's Week 2 home game against Virginia.

Indiana opens preseason practice Monday, and the workload for Wilson and his assistants is about to surge. So it's nice to see they were able to enjoy a night out before the craziness begins.
