Big Ten rankings: No. 12, David Molk

By Brian Bennett

We're down to the dandy dozen in our Big Ten preseason player rankings, which are based on past performance and potential impact for the 2011 season.

No. 12: David Molk, C, Michigan, Sr. 6-2, 286

2010 numbers: Started all 13 games at center, earning All-Big Ten first team honors from the coaches.

Why he's here: Who's the best center in the Big Ten? Depends on whom you ask. The coaches voted for Molk last season, while the media tabbed Ohio State's Mike Brewster. Both were among the five finalists for the Rimington Trophy, honoring the nation's best center. Ask Denard Robinson, and he'd pick Molk. After all, Molk was the guy snapping the ball and clearing some lanes for the Wolverines' star quarterback last season. Molk will be asked to anchor a different type of attack this season under Brady Hoke, one in which Robinson will be under center more often. It's hard to quantify a center's contributions through numbers and statistics, but it's hard to deny that Molk is one of the nation's best at the position.
