Reports: Urban Meyer to coach Buckeyes

By Adam Rittenberg

There are multiple reports Wednesday that Urban Meyer will become Ohio State's head coach, with a formal announcement coming early next week.

While Meyer in a statement to ESPN denied being offered any coaching positions, Ohio State sources have told The Columbus Dispatch, The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer and other outlets that Meyer will become the Buckeyes coach. Contract terms have not been finalized, contrary to some reports.

The Ohio State camp seems more willing to get this out there than the Meyer camp, which maintains that no offer has been made and there's no done deal. Meyer, who was born in Toledo and grew up in Ashtabula, Ohio, served as a graduate assistant at Ohio State from 1986-87.

Ohio State sources told The Dispatch's Tim May that current Buckeyes coach Luke Fickell would be "taken care of when or if Meyer accepts the job." Whether it means Fickell would remain on staff as an assistant, as some have reported, remains to be seen.

Fickell, who has been placed in another tough spot, reiterated Thursday that his focus remains on Saturday's game at Michigan.

"I know there is a game at noon on Saturday and my [butt] will be there," Fickell said.

Much more to come on this story, so stay tuned.
