Spartans' Adams to return for senior year

By Adam Rittenberg

Michigan State will have arguably the Big Ten's top cornerback back on the field in 2012.

Johnny Adams announced via Twitter that he'll be returning for his senior season in East Lansing. A team spokesman told ESPN.com that Adams remains enrolled at Michigan State and attended a team meeting this morning.

Adams, a first-team All-Big Ten selection by the coaches, had sought an evaluation from the NFL draft advisory board. He recorded 51 tackles, including three sacks, to go along with three interceptions, six pass breakups and four quarterback hurries.

Although Adams wasn't expected to make the jump, his decision is good news for a Spartans defense that could once again be one of the nation's best in 2012. Michigan State has had two players -- defensive tackle Jerel Worthy and running back Edwin Baker -- opt to forgo their senior seasons and enter the draft.
