Tracking our B1G fantasy teams: Week 9

By Brian Bennett

The Big Ten is full of parity this year, and so too is our Big Ten fantasy league.

After eight weeks of action, Adam's Trombone Shorties and my Non-Gingervitis are all square at four wins apiece. The Shorties tied it up with last week's 113-92 victory, as my team produced its lowest point total of the year.

Adam's boy's were paced by Taylor Martinez (37 fantasy points) and the resurgent Montee Ball (28). Waiver-wire pickup Kenny Bell (13) also helped.

As for my team, well, mama said there'd be days like this. My anchors, Braxton Miller (14 points) and Denard Robinson (15) were held well below their averages. Venric Mark (17) and Carlos Hyde (21) picked up some of the slack, but not nearly enough.

So we're deadlocked with five more weeks to go. In a battle this close, smart work on the waiver wire will be key. I've got first pick this week:

Brian adds Purdue WR Antavian Edison and drops Ohio State WR Devin Smith

Rationale: Smith has been all-or-nothing in fantasy, and I'm not thrilled about his matchup against Penn State. So I'm going with Edison, who's been quiet of late but has a chance to make some noise against Minnesota. I was tempted to pick one of Indiana's receivers against Illinois but couldn't pull the trigger.

Adam adds Penn State QB Matt McGloin and drops Northwestern QB Kain Colter

Rationale: Colter clearly wants the ball more, as he told me this week, but I don't know if he'll get what he wants Saturday against Iowa. McGloin has been exceptional and faces a shorthanded Ohio State defense that he should be able to attack all night long.

Adam drops Michigan's defense for Purdue's defense

Rationale: The Wolverines have been terrific in Big Ten play, but they haven't faced an offense like Nebraska's since the season opener. This isn't a long-term move, but I'll take Purdue's defense, which looked good most of last week's game against Ohio State, against Minnesota's banged-up, transitioning offense.
