Tracking our B1G fantasy teams: Week 13
By Brian Bennett
My plan to build a super team and win the final two weeks of our Big Ten fantasy football league was foiled. Instead, it was Adam's Trombone Shorties who looked super in Week 12.
Thanks to career days from Matt McGloin (31 points), Allen Robinson (37) and Kenny Bell (25), plus the usual strong performance of Taylor Martinez (22), the Shorties whipped Non-Gingervitis 149-129 to clinch the season title.
My pickup of Michigan's Devin Gardner at receiver paid off, as Gardner accounted for six touchdowns and scored a week-high 45 fantasy points. Montee Ball chipped in 25, though a touchdown on that dive toward the end zone sure would have helped. Braxton Miller (seven points) picked a bad time for his worst fantasy showing of the season. And my choice of Le'Veon Bell (13 points) over Carlos Hyde (20) on the waiver wire last week proved a bad one.
So congrats to Adam on the championship. We still have one more week left, and it's all about pride now as I look to make the season series 7-6 in his favor instead of 8-5. Here are this week's pickups:
Brian adds Michigan QB Denard Robinson and drops Northwestern QB Kain Colter
Rationale: I'm not sure how healthy Colter is this week, so I'm welcoming Robinson back to my team for one last hurrah. He almost certainly won't play quarterback, but I'm guessing he'll rack up some points running and receiving. This is for old times' sake as much as anything.
Adam adds Michigan State's defense and drops Michigan's defense
Rationale: The Wolverines have been a bit shaky against spread teams, and Braxton Miller might have a big game Saturday. Michigan State's defense knows what's at stake Saturday, and with the offense's woes, limits Minnesota's offense on the road.
Our complete rosters for Week 13:
