Hoosiers move season opener to Aug. 29
By Adam Rittenberg
Arguably no Big Ten school has welcomed the recent surge of night games more than Indiana, so it comes as no surprise that the Hoosiers once again will open a season on a Thursday night.
Indiana announced Tuesday that its 2013 season opener against Indiana State has been moved from Saturday, Aug. 31, to Thursday, Aug. 29. The specific kickoff time and TV coverage for the game will be announced at a later date.
The Hoosiers also opened the 2009 and 2010 seasons with Thursday night home games, defeating Eastern Kentucky and Towson, respectively. For just the second time in team history Indiana will play eight home games in a season this fall. The Hoosiers also host Navy (Sept. 7), Bowling Green (Sept. 14) and Missouri (Sept. 21) in non-league play.
There will be at least two Big Ten teams opening the season on Aug. 29 as Minnesota will host UNLV that night at TCF Bank Stadium. Big Ten teams have become more open to Thursday night and Friday night season openers in recent years, although the league typically only schedules midweek games at the start and at the end of the regular season.
Indiana opens spring practice Saturday.
