BOSTON -- The Boston Bruins recalled defenseman Matt Bartkowski from Providence, the Bruins' AHL affiliate, on Thursday night.

The move came as a bit of a surprise. Head coach Claude Julien had said his team was healthy Wednesday night after the Bruins' 4-3 overtime win versus the Maple Leafs in Game 4 in Toronto.

But with Bartkowski being recalled, it could mean a defenseman might not be able to go for Friday's Game 5. Johnny Boychuk appeared to suffer a leg injury after blocking a shot during Game 4, but he did return to finish the game.

When defenseman Andrew Ference was suspended for Game 2, Julien elected to not call up Bartkowski, instead playing rookie rearguard Dougie Hamilton, who was a healthy scratch in Game 1 and again in Games 3 and 4.

Bartkowski had two assists in 11 games with Boston this season and three goals and 21 assists in 56 games with Providence.
