BOSTON -- The Bruins recalled forward Ryan Spooner from Providence to replace Jordan Caron in the Bruins' lineup Thursday night in their matchup with the Anaheim Ducks at TD Garden.

With Caron out, Spooner joins Carl Soderberg and Chris Kelly on the Bruins' third line.

"I think we need a little bit more speed right now and we need a little bit more offense in our game, and sometimes a new face in the lineup can certainly help bring that," Bruins coach Claude Julien said. "He had a good camp; he showed his speed, he showed his ability to be creative offensively and so maybe that's a kind of boost we need right now."

Spooner led the P-Bruins in scoring last season (17 goals and 40 assists for 57 points in 59 games), and played in four games for Boston, including his pro debut on Feb. 6. In eight games this season for Providence, he has two goals and five assists.
