BOSTON -- Bruins coach Claude Julien felt he needed to make a change and didn’t hesitate to insert defenseman Andrej Meszaros into the lineup for Game 2.

As a result, Matt Bartkowski was a healthy scratch.

“It’s what we decided to do. It’s as simple as that. I think we felt we needed a change and we made that,” Julien said.

Meszaros logged 16:35 of ice time and was paired with Johnny Boychuk in Game 2 against the Montreal Canadiens. When the Bruins acquired Meszaros from the Philadelphia Flyers at the trade deadline, he was brought in to add depth to the blue line. In the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs against the Detroit Red Wings, Meszaros played the first two games while Bartkowski was sidelined with the flu.

In Game 1 of the second round, Bartkowski struggled, so Julien made the lineup chance.

“It’s tough when you’re not playing,” Meszaros said. “Obviously you want to be in the lineup every time, but it’s coach’s decision, you have to respect that. We have to just be focused, stay ready physically and mentally, when you get the opportunity just go out there and play.”

Game 3 of the series is Tuesday at Bell Centre in Montreal, and it’s likely Meszaros will remain in the lineup.
