The Panthers on Tuesday signed forward Shawn Thornton to a two-year deal worth $1.2 million per season, according to a league source.
Thornton, a two-time Stanley Cup champion, spent seven seasons in Boston and helped the Bruins reach the finals twice. He had five goals and three assist last season.
Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli informed Thornton a couple of weeks ago that the team would not re-sign him. Numerous teams were interested in Thornton’s services before he landed with the Panthers.
