Providence Bruins captain Trent Whitfield, a source of depth at forward for the parent club, likely will miss the entire 2010-11 season after undergoing surgery to repair a torn Achilles, a team source confirmed. The blog Somethingsbruin.net first reported the story Saturday.
Whitfield had one assist and seven penalty minutes in seven regular-season games in 2009-10. He also played in four playoff games but failed to register a point. Whitfield, who was originally drafted in the fourth round of the 1996 draft, has 29 points and 104 penalty minutes in 193 NHL games with Washington, St. Louis and Boston.
