PHILADELPHIA -- David Krejci came through again for the Bruins and this time it was in OT as the Czech center took a perfect pass from Nathan Horton and buried it past Flyers goalie Brian Boucher. After leading the Bruins in their 7-3 Game 1 win with two goals and two assists, Krejci told the media that some Flyers players reminded him of the devastating hit that Mike Richards laid on him in Game 3 of the 2010 Eastern Conference series. That hit knocked Krejci out for the rest of the series with a broken wrist and the Bruins lost the next four games after having a 3-0 lead in the series.
Krejci seems motivated to show what could’ve been in 2010 had he not been injured and it appears the Flyers’ trash-talking has only awoken a sleeping giant even more.
“Well, he is capable of playing the way we have seen him on a daily basis,” head coach Claude Julien said after the game. “I think he has been motivated to play in this series, obviously with what happened to him last year. He seems like a determined player. He has been playing hard and well, and obviously we need that kind of contribution from him and his line. It is nice to see that line be a big part of our success.”
It appears Krejci is in the zone and his teammates are glad to see him find his stride again.
“Yeah, well he has got his own rhythm to his game, so he doesn’t fit the mold of a lot of the guys on our team that are just go, go, go and kind of all over the place,” defenseman Andrew Ference pointed out. “He has his own rhythm, his own tempo that he finds, so it’s not always as apparent when he is going great. He is an extremely valuable player to us. You know with Luch (Milan Lucic) and Horty, they can complement each other really well and come up with some pretty big plays.”
Krejci is happy that he and his linemates, Horton and Lucic have collectively got their mojo back and are now playing major roles in Bruins wins.
“I don’t know what to say really,” said Krejci, who now has three goals and two assists in the series. “It happened, in the first series against Montreal we got two but other than that we didn’t really put our names on the score sheet. We got the two big goals and it helped our confidence and we were able to carry that into the second round too. We got the big one tonight and hopefully we can keep it going.”
