Vancouver Canucks forward Jeff Tambellini will take the place of injured teammate Mason Raymond in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals, Vancouver coach Alain Vigneault said Wednesday.
Raymond is expected to miss three to four months after suffering a fractured vertebrae when he was awkwardly sent into the boards by the Bruins' Johnny Boychuk on the first shift of Game 6 on Monday night.
Raymond had struggled on Vancouver's second line in the postseason, managing just two goals and six assists. The 25-year-old Raymond scored 15 goals this season and had 25 goals the previous season.
Despite his low point total in 24 playoff games this season, Raymond was among the Canucks' leaders with 17 shots through the first five games of the Cup finals. His speed will be missed on both the second line and killing penalties.
Tambellini played just 2 minutes, 30 seconds in Game 1 and 5:50 in Game 2.
