Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli confirmed that the Bruins have spoken to Burlington, Mass., native Jay Pandolfo about a tryout contract for training camp, which begins Sept. 16.

“He’s one of the guys we’ve talked to,” Chiarelli said of the former Boston University star who played 13 seasons and 819 NHL games for the New jersey Devils but spent last season in the AHL with Springfield.

Chiarelli also said that the team has issued at least one invitation and spoken to three players.

“We’ve issued at least one invitation tryout and we didn’t hear back yet,” Chiarelli said. “Not sure they’ll accept. The guys that we’ve talked to but haven’t issued invitations to them, it will be a moving thing as we approach camp.”

Chiarelli has had success with camp tryouts, as Glen Metropolit made the 2007-08 squad on a tryout and proved to be an important part of that team that ended up making the playoffs as an eighth seed and taking the Canadiens to seven games in the opening round. Metropolit had 33 points and played all 82 games that season plus all seven in the playoffs.
