Ottawa -- The NHL All-Star skills competition was held Saturday night and once again Boston Bruins captain Zdeno Chara did not disappoint as the All-Star captain shattered his own Hardest Shot record of 105.9 mph with an amazing 108.8 mark. That earned him a standing ovation from the Scotia Bank Place fans that he played in front of for five seasons as a Senator before bolting to Boston via free agency in 2006.

“It’s a great feeling and I’m so happy I could do it in Ottawa, the place where I used to play, do it for the fans as well,” Chara said. “That standing ovation was very appreciated. Like I said, I played hard here and tried my best over the five seasons that I played here and I’m just glad that the fans recognize that and it’s a nice gesture by them. They showed that they still support their team and even the guys here in the skills competition.”

Chara actually had a lower mark of 107.0 in the final against Predators defenseman Shea Weber, who finished at 106.0.

“I always say every year that I want to break the record again and this was actually a pretty high number and I was surprised when I saw it,” Chara said. “It’s always hard because the guys shoot the puck harder every year so it’s hard to win.”

Bruins forward Tyler Seguin -- on Team Chara -- participated in accuracy shooting and the elimination shootout, but didn’t fare too well as he finished with the second-worst mark in the accuracy shooting at 30.092 and then was stopped by Blues goalie Brian Elliott in the elimination shootout.

Team Chara lost to Daniel Alfredsson's squad 21-12.

But Seguin wasn’t really concerned about his performance. He simply enjoyed watching his teammate and captain put on another show in the Hardest Shot.

“I know how much that means to him and I know how hard it is so to see him do that and break his record was awesome,” Seguin said. “It’s incredible and to be here again to watch that was incredible.”

Seguin was then asked if that gave him an appreciation of how goalies that face Chara feel?

“No. Hopefully my coaches are watching and realize why I don’t go to the net,” the Bruins leading scorer quipped.
