Three predictions for 2013
By James Murphy
As we welcome a new year, ESPN Boston writers have checked their crystal balls and are making some bold predictions. Here are three for the Bruins:
1. The Bruins will trade David Krejci to Phoenix or Anaheim. If Phoenix, it will be for defenseman Keith Yandle; if Anaheim, it will be for winger Bobby Ryan. There was plenty of offseason chatter surrounding these proposed deals, and there had been in previous summers and leading into trade deadlines. Usually where there's smoke, there's fire.
2. Bruins trade Tim Thomas. If there is hockey this season, Thomas announces he will play and the Bruins trade him to Colorado in exchange for a prospect and third-round pick. If no season, the Bruins trade Thomas for a late- round pick. GM Peter Chiarelli will do everything possible to get some return for a two-time Vezina Trophy winner and the goalie that carried his team on his shoulders to the Stanley Cup in 2011. The lockout should actually help Chairelli do this since Thomas won't be the only rusty goalie.
3. Spooner Gets Promoted: Ryan Spooner takes Jordan Caron's spot on the Boston roster and Caron is eventually traded. Spooner is ripping it up in Providence this season and Caron -- who with plenty of NHL experience under his belt should be doing the same at the AHL level -- has underachieved. Caron has been given plenty of opportunity to stick at the Boston level, and the 2009 first-round pick may be playing his way out of Boston.
