Second-period quick hits
By Joe McDonald
BOSTON –- Flashing glove, blocker and pad, Sabres goaltender Ryan Miller is stonewalling the Bruins.
Boston has had its chances but, so far, Miller has made 16 saves and the Sabres scored again in the second period and hold a 2-0 advantage after 40 minutes.
Backstopped by Miller, Buffalo gained a two-goal lead when defenseman Steve Montador took a slap shot from the left point that deflected off Bruins defenseman Dennis Wideman in front and ricocheted past Tuukka Rask at 6:59.
Boston is getting quality chances, but Miller has been very good.
The Bruins’ Milan Lucic tried to give his teammates a boost when he dropped the gloves with Sabres captain Craig Rivet early in the period.
On the bright side, the Bruins have played well in the third period this series. As long as they can stay out of the penalty box and continue to crash the net, the Bruins could get themselves back in the game.
