Melrose: Bruins defied all the odds
On Monday night’s SportsCenter, ESPN NHL analyst Barry Melrose tried to digest the Bruins’ historic comeback over the Maple Leafs in Game 7:
“A team is 3 goals down with less than 10 minutes left in the third period. A team is two goals down with less than 2 minutes left in the third period. You can’t win those games, you’re not supposed to win those games, it never happens.”
But it did.
Melrose saved his most noteworthy praise for Milan Lucic, who got an assist on Nathan Horton’s third-period goal, scored the team’s second goal of the period and then dug the puck out from behind the net and passed it to the point on the game-tying goal.
“He was a physical presence all night long, one of the best games I’ve ever seen Milan Lucic play,” Melrose said. “He has to continue to play that way.”
The Bruins and Rangers drop the puck for Round 2 on Thursday night.
