Rask to get first start in goal
By Joe McDonald
BOSTON -- Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask will make his 2011-2012 debut Monday afternoon against the Colorado Avalanche at TD Garden.
Rask posted an 11-14-2 record in 2010-2011 along with a 2.67 goals-against average and a .918 save percent. He played two of the preseason exhibition games last month and posted a 1-0-1 record. Coach Claude Julien said he’s been impressed with the 24-year-old netminder.
“I see a better Tuukka this year,” Julien said. “Whether it’s through maturity or preparation or being hungry to get more ice time and prove he deserves it, there’s not doubt I feel confident. I’ve said all along, we say we have two No. 1 goaltenders. We know what Tim Thomas has accomplished, but at the same time if Tuukka was on another team there’s a good chance he would be the No. 1 goalie. We’re very comfortable with both goaltenders and when you have an elite guy on your team it makes it that much easier.”
