The Bruins announced Wednesday that they've named Doug Jarvis as a third assistant coach, replacing Craig Ramsey and joining Doug Houda and Geoff Ward behind the bench.

Ramsey left the Bruins in June to become head coach of the Atlanta Thrashers.

Jarvis, 55, spent four seasons as an associate coach for the Montreal Canadiens, from 2005 to 2009, helping lead
the Habs to three playoff appearances. During part of the 2005-06 season in Montreal he served under current Bruins head Coach Claude Julien.

Jarvis played 13 years in the NHL, playing for the Canadiens, Capitals and Whalers, and won four
Stanley Cups with Montreal. He holds the record for consecutive games with 964 between 1975 and 1987.
