BOSTON -- Maybe it was lingering tryptophan from Thanksgiving turkey, but it was a sleepy and quiet pregame at the TD Garden. Not a lot of activity as the Celtics prepared to host the Raptors.
"I'll tell you, we're going to feed you turkey every day," Celtics coach Doc Rivers joked to reporters after a breezy four-minute Q and A. "It's nice and quiet. I love it."
Here's some of the (few) notes to come out of pregame availability:
Green on Black Friday: The Celtics, who have lost three consecutive Friday games in November to Phoenix, Atlanta, and Orlando, will wear their green jerseys for tonight's game. If the Celtics win tonight, it will be interesting to see if they resume the trend on their next Friday home game, which isn't until Dec. 18 against Philadelphia.
The Tony Allen Watch: Allen went through a spirited warm-up, but remains inactive for Friday's game. Rivers maintained his stance that he's uncertain when Allen will be game-ready.
Rivers was asked if, when Allen is ready, rookie Lester Hudson could be optioned to the Maine Red Claws of the NBA Development League.
"I don't know, I think we'll wait and see," said Rivers. "It depends on how Tony is playing and how many practice days we have."
Forward Bill Walker was assigned to the Red Claws last week and was scheduled to appear in the team's inaugural season-opener Friday night.
Both Walker and fellow second-year man J.R. Giddens spent part of last season with the Utah Flash of the NBDL.
UConn vs. Duke: With No. 7 Duke tangling with No. 13 UConn, Shelden Williams was keeping a close eye on the score of his Blue Devils.
Williams was pleased to see his Blue Devils out front early, and endured some good-natured joking from Rasheed Wallace (from rival North Carolina). Duke polished off a 68-59 triumph before Friday's tip-off at the Garden.
Ray Allen, a UConn standout, wasn't spotted in the locker room to support his Huskies.
Thoughts on Toronto: Celtics coach Doc Rivers raved about the shooting ability of the Raptors, particularly with the offseason addition of Hedo Turkoglu, who was a thorn in Boston's side during last year's playoff series vs. the Magic.
"They're a great shooting team," said Rivers. "They spread the floor. They don't do it exactly the same way Philly and New York do it. They do it with size and matchups. It's very similar to the way we try to use Rasheed when he's in. They do it all around. Their 4's take the ball off the dribble, their 4's can shoot. Their 5's take you off the dribble and their 5's shoot 3[-pointers]. They're a great shooting team and they have size. Their 3-4-5 are all 6-10 and above. That's impressive."
Raptors coach Jay Triano stressed that his team must get better in the defensive end. He said the chemistry with new players could be hindering that process.
