Celtics guard Marquis Daniels, who underwent surgery Wednesday morning to repair a torn ligament in his left thumb, said via his Twitter account that he's hoping to come back stronger than before.

Tweeted Daniels:

Thanx 4 everyones prayers my surgery went well, I'll be back better than before I had been, I'd like to say thanks to all dat prayed 4me

Daniels, who is averaging 5.7 points, 2.1 assists and 2 rebounds per game, initially injured himself during a loss in Indiana on Nov. 14. He's worn tape over his thumb and wrist since then, but aggravated the injury in Charlotte, then again during Sunday's practice.

Celtics coach Doc Rivers indicated Tuesday night before Boston's tilt with the Bucks that Daniels would be re-evaluated after undergoing an MRI Tuesday, and that led to him going under the knife Wednesday morning at New England Baptist Hospital. According to the Celtics, the surgery was performed by Drs. Brian McKeon and Drew Terrono.

The team did not announce a timetable for Daniels's return.

Rivers initially hoped Daniels might only miss a handful of games, but said Tuesday, "The worst-case scenario, whatever it is, let's get it fixed."
