Celtics coach Doc Rivers indicated Rajon Rondo battled a sore hamstring Monday, an injury the Boston point guard tweaked in each of the last two games.
But Rondo certainly showed no signs of being limited by the hamstring -- nor a bruised ego after missing a pair of free throws in the waning moments of Sunday's 92-90 loss to the Clippers -- as he scored a season-high 30 points and dished out 15 assists in a 103-99 loss to the Golden State Warriors.
Rondo had a double-double before the end of the first half and carried an offense still trying to find an identity with Paul Pierce sidelined with a knee injury.
"[Rondo] played terrific all night," said Rivers. "His hamstring is bothering him and we almost took him out, but he wanted to keep playing. He tweaked it [versus the Clippers] and tweaked it early in the first quarter [against Golden State]."
Rondo scored eight consecutive points for Boston during a stretch late in the fourth quarter to give the Celtics a chance, but the Green simply couldn't generate the tying hoop in the waning moments.
Dating to Nov. 22, Rondo has scored in double digits in every game but one (Dec. 1 vs. Charlotte, eight points).
Elias Sports Bureau notes Rondo joined some elite company with a 30/15 game: "Rajon Rondo had 30 points and 15 assists on Monday, making him only the third Celtics player to have a 30/15 (points/assists) game: Bob Cousy and Larry Bird each did it twice, although neither did it in a loss, as Rondo did on Monday against the Warriors."
