Monday night's loss at Golden State might have the Celtics poised to slip in the next batch of rankings, but the team held firm at No. 2in Marc Stein's latest ESPN.com power rankings unveiled before the Green's second defeat in as many nights.

The Celtics seemed poised to climb back to the top of the list after a Christmas victory over Orlando, but a rough start to a three-game trip out West left them behind the Cleveland Cavaliers. Writes Stein: "Losing Pierce for two weeks isn't normally the blueprint for rising to the top. But that's where the Celts were surely headed after their Christmas clampdown of the Magic -- in Orlando -- until Baron got 'em at the buzzer."

Boston has dipped to third in John Hollinger's statistical rankings, falling behind both the Cavs and Hawks.
