* Boston center Kendrick Perkins made a layup with 3:16 to play in the first half, putting the Celtics on top, 41-33. Over the next 14 minutes, spanning into the third quarter, Atlanta embarked on a 35-12 run. A look at their dominance during that stretch:

Field goals: Boston 4 of 22; Atlanta 14 of 22.
3-pointers: Boston 1 of 7; Atlanta 4 of 8.
Turnovers: Boston 6; Atlanta 4.

* Maybe the Celtics should have let Jamal Crawford drive to the basket. Crawford, who came off the bench to score 14 of his team-high 18 points in the fourth quarter, hoisted 9 of his 12 shot attempts from at least 17 feet away from the basket. He connected on seven field goals overall, only two of which came near the basket (both layups).

* It wasn't just Crawford who was hot from the outside. The Hawks shot an impressive 58.9 percent (20 of 34 overall) in the second half, doing most of their damage away from the bucket. Atlanta hit 62.5 percent (10 of 16) of its attempts that came from more than 17 feet out, compared to 55.6 percent (10 of 18) inside of 17 feet.

* Boston struggled mightily off the dribble, particularly in the third quarter when it seemed to have no ability to create shots off the dribble, connecting on 9 of 31 attempts (29 percent) for only 19 points.
