Pierce a game-time decision

1/18/2010

BOSTON -- Paul Pierce, who tweaked his surgically-drained right knee during Sunday's practice session, is a game-time decision for Monday's battle with the Dallas Mavericks, according to the team.

The Celtics did not hold a pregame walkthrough because the Boston Bruins played at the Garden this afternoon and the arena is still in the process of being changed over for tonight's 8 p.m. tip.

Pierce collided with Shelden Williams during the final moments of Sunday's practice and spilled to the floor in apparent pain after being hit in the same spot he had fluid drained from after battling a right knee infection in late December. Pierce retreated with trainer Ed Lacerte, but returned for the final moments of the session with an oversized ice pack on the knee.

Our thoughts? Barring any swelling following the collision, we believe Pierce will lobby to play. The question is whether Celtics coach Doc Rivers and the training staff, who have taken a better-safe-than-sorry approach during the 2009-10 season, allow him to get on the court this evening.
