Call him Glen. Call him Big Baby. Call him Uno Uno. The Celtics' Glen Davis clears up the controversy as he gets ready for the Lakers game. What does he remember most from beating them in the 2008 Finals? And why is he comparing himself to Shaquille O'Neal? Davis tells ESPNBoston.com in his latest player diary.
--As told to Louise K. Cornetta
I have to give you the 50-cent version of my diary this week because we're playing a big game today against the Lakers and I need to get game ready. I promise next time we'll go through my locker so you can see what hidden surprises I have in here.
I like when we play L.A. because of our past history that we have with them. It's always a tough game. It's a good rivalry because of the history, which makes even a regular-season game a big game into a huge game. And I can't think about the Lakers without thinking about the 2008 Finals. Only thing I can remember about all that is that we won. That's all I can remember, we won. I can’t remember nothing else. And I'll let you in on a secret, you may think I'm a big trash talker on the court especially against the Lakers, but I don’t talk trash. Besides, when you have someone like Kobe out there, he's a good player, a great player. So nothing to say.
What I do like is how intense the fans are for a game like this. I can tell the difference when we play L.A. It's really intense.
Okay, and let's clear this nickname stuff up. Right now, I have two nicknames. I have Big Baby and I have Uno Uno. I might make up another one next week. I was telling the guys in the locker room that Shaq has a bunch on nicknames, why not me?!
Okay, I've got to go get ready, next time we'll get into more fun stuff. Maybe I'll tell you all some other secrets.
