WALTHAM, Mass. -- A day after making a digital denial, Celtics captain Paul Pierce reiterated that he was not responsible for a Twitter post referencing a possible sweep over the Magic following Boston's win in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference finals on Tuesday in Orlando.

Shortly after the Celtics' victory, a post to Pierce's official and verified Twitter page (@paulpierce34) read, "Anybody got a BROOM?'' which implied Boston would finish off the Magic in four games to advance to the NBA Finals.

Los Angeles-based Athlete Interactive said that Pierce's page had been hacked and said they had alerted authorities at Twitter about the incident. Four posts that the company said did not come from Pierce have since been deleted. Pierce also Tweeted Wednesday that he was not responsible for the sweep-implying message.

On Thursday, Pierce pleaded innocence and suggested the media knew more about the situation than he did.

"I don't know, I think you guys know more than me on that," Pierce said. "I guess somebody said that I said, 'Break out the brooms.' I'm not going to say that on the Twitter. That's pretty unprofessional. That's something I wouldn't say like that. I would probably talk some trash on the court, say something that I wouldn't say here, but I definitely didn't say that."

Teammates sided with Pierce when asked about the incident.

"I don't think that Paul Tweeted that, that was false," said Glen Davis, who had his own Twitter drama last offseason when an account, not verified to Davis but suggesting to be him, made comments critical of the Celtics organization about contract talks. "I don't believe the Tweet, that could be anybody's Tweet."

Pierce did make some brash comments in a postgame interview with ESPN (looking directly at the camera and telling Celtics fans, "We're coming home to close it out") that coach Doc Rivers wasn't terribly pleased with, but Pierce suggested it was simply expressing excitement at returning home having won the first two games of the series.

"I don't like it," admitted Rivers. "I don't mind the confidence part, that's good, you gotta have confidence. But we want to be humble; we haven't achieved anything. I think that's what he was trying to say, just came out at the end. I wish they had taken the mic away after the last couple of word. Up until then, he was pretty good. We do have to go home and our fans will help us, but we gotta do it on the floor."

Rivers said he hadn't talked individually to Pierce about the incident, but noted he did address the team about overconfidence.

"I talked to team about it, he was part of the team," said Rivers. "Unfortunately, I talked to the team in the locker room after the game and someone had already grabbed him."

Magic center Dwight Howard was asked about the rogue tweet after Monday's loss.

"Am I supposed to have a comment on that?" Howard said. "No, they only won two games. I mean, they can write what they want. But we're going to stay humble and stay focused. Pride comes before a fall, just know that."

The Celtics lead the best-of-seven series 2-0, with Game 3 Saturday night in Boston.
