SHEED ON THIN ICE AFTER SIXTH TECHNICAL

Celtics forward Rasheed Wallace finds himself on thin ice after picking up his sixth technical foul of the postseason. He got tagged for arguing a call in the fourth quarter of Thursday's win.

With his next technical foul, Wallace will reach the league's postseason threshold of seven technical fouls and be suspended one game. Center Kendrick Perkins has been teetering on the edge ever since being tagged with a pair of technicals -- one that was later rescinded -- in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference finals in Orlando.

The Celtics are hopeful the league will review Wallace's latest infraction, which came after he was whistled for a foul on Kobe Bryant with 7:24 remaining. Wallace stomped about a bit while voicing his displeasure and quickly got the enhanced infraction.

"It is what it is. I hope they rescind that one because I thought he did a dance but he ran away," said coach Doc Rivers. "I didn't think he said anything. The dance was funny, and so I could see it, but I don't know. I just wish they hadn't given it to him. It is a concern. The Lakers know that. Somehow we're going to have to keep our composure.

"I was concerned. I don't know what quarter it was, it might have been the second quarter, might have been third when Gasol and Perk kept going back and forth. That was actually one of the reasons I said, 'We've got to get him out,' because you could see it, the doubletechnicals, it was about to come.

"But listen, we've put ourselves in this situation and we're going to have to play ourselves out of it."

The Celtics accrued 21 technical fouls during the first three rounds of the playoffs, most coming during the Cleveland and Orlando series, and had been on fairly good behavior early in the Lakers series, with only one technical issued to Paul Pierce through three games.

On Thursday, both Wallace and Nate Robinson picked up fourth-quarter technicals.

"They were playing with great emotion," said Rivers. "Even Nate, that was one I didn't like more than Rasheed's. We don't have to be tough, especially at whatever height you are. But that's who he is. He's an emotional player. It's so easy for us -- I'm sitting in a suit and tie and all of us to say, 'Rein it in.' But they were playing well, they were happy, they were excited. So it is a fine line."

PIERCE ACCIDENTALLY HITS OFFICIAL

For the first time this series, the officials avoided the headlines by keeping their whistles in their pockets (for the most part). But Paul Pierce took out some pent up frustration on poor Eddie F. Rush by landing an inadvertent right jab late in the first quarter.

Pierce drove to the hoop and a layup attempt rolled off the rim after he was fouled. Pierce, who was looking back over his right shoulder to see whether the shot fell, punched the air in frustration and connected with the right side of Rush’s face.

Pierce apologized, but couldn’t help but smirk at what he’d done.
